It’s fascinating to note that Jesus kickstarted His ministry right in the comfort of homes. While He made grand announcements in the temple, much of His impactful work occurred in these cozy settings. Take, for instance, the well-known story of the paralytic man lowered through a roof to meet Jesus; it happened in someone’s house. This underlines the significance of home-based ministry in God’s grand plan.
In the larger gatherings, we come under the preaching, teachings, and where vision is shared. However, home groups are where we roll up our sleeves and dive deep into the nitty-gritty of our Christian journey. These cozy gatherings provide the ideal space for us to work out our faith with a hint of awe and trembling, just as Philippians 2:12 suggests. Here, we nurture relationships, practice our faith, uncover our spiritual gifts, and become effective gospel sharers.
It’s easy to mistake home groups for casual get-togethers. While they indeed offer opportunities for social interaction and for us to do life together, their primary mission is discipleship. In these intimate settings, we put our faith into action, learn to live out our Christian beliefs practically, and experience remarkable spiritual growth.
This heartwarming Erasmus family began their journey led them to Ballito in August 2016, all the way from Joburg.
This loving family is complete with two adorable boys, Evan and Enzo.
Their adventure took an exciting turn in January 2020 when they began steering the ship of the Children’s Ministry, known as Encounter Kidz, at Encounter Church.
They are overflowing with enthusiasm to witness the incredible plans God has in store for the children in our church community.
Join us as we embark on this exciting adventure together!
What to expect:
Authentic Connections: Forge deep friendships with like-minded young adults who are navigating life’s challenges and victories just like you.
We envision the Church
operating like a well-structured train,
travelling on two distinct tracks.
"YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD
WITH ALL YOUR HEART AND
WITH ALL YOUR SOUL AND
WITH ALL YOUR MIND.
YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR
AS YOURSELF."
- Matthew 22:36-40 ESV
"ALL AUTHORITY IN HEAVEN AND ON EARTH HAS BEEN GIVEN TO ME. GO THEREFORE AND MAKE DISCIPLES OF ALL NATIONS, BAPTIZING THEM IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER AND OF THE SON AND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, TEACHING THEM TO OBSERVE ALL THAT I HAVE COMMANDED YOU. AND BEHOLD, I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS, TO THE END OF THE AGE." - Matthew 28:16-20 ESV
Meet Kurt and Shannon, a loving couple who embarked on their journey together in 2004 with a shared passion for spreading the Great Commission.
In the words of Jesus from Matthew 28:18-20: “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Before their current adventure leading Encounter Church Ballito, Kurt and Shannon served on eldership teams and played pivotal roles in planting and nurturing a Church in Johannesburg for 11 wonderful years.
Their hearts are filled with love for their three beautiful children: Josiah, Julia, and Joel. As a family, they are absolutely thrilled to get to know you and welcome you into their lives!

Simply head over to the Seaward Estates gate on Ballito Drive. You’ll be greeted by one of our friendly volunteers who will gladly let you in.
Parking is a breeze at our location. We have ample parking around our building, and there’s even a field at the lower end of our campus. Being in an estate, our parking area is safe and secure.
Absolutely! While we unapologetically believe in the life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ and God’s sovereignty, we welcome everyone. Our hope is that you, too, will experience the love of Jesus Christ when you visit. We’re here for folks just like you!
We’re not big on denominational labels, but if we had to pick one, you could say we lean toward Pentecostal.
Typically, our services run for about 90 minutes. We kick things off with about 30 minutes of worship led by our talented band. Then, one of our leaders will step up to share a few announcements, followed by a 45-minute message delivered by another leader or a special guest.
After the message, the band might treat us to one more song, but the real highlight is the coffee and camaraderie waiting for you at the end!
In short, no. However, during the service, there will be an opportunity to give. We believe in cheerful giving, so only give if it brings joy to your heart, as mentioned in 2 Corinthians 9:7-8.
Yes, we do. We celebrate communion on the first Sunday of every new month. Everyone is encouraged to participate, and all are welcome to partake in the elements. We do believe it’s important for individuals to examine their own hearts before taking part in communion.
Absolutely! We hold the Christian Bible in the highest regard, viewing it as inspired by God and infallible. It serves as the ultimate authority in our lives, guiding our beliefs and actions, both individually and as a Church.
Indeed, we believe in the supernatural. We don’t engage in anything peculiar or bizarre, but we do have faith in a supernatural God who operates through the power of the Holy Spirit. Our aim is to conform to God’s will rather than expecting God to conform to ours.
In our Church, the Elders—Kurt, Christo, and Trevor—hold the highest God-appointed authority, making final decisions as an Eldership team. However, we do seek input and perspective from NCMI, which stands for “New Covenant Ministries International.”
On a broader scale, we collaborate with New Covenant Ministries International (NCMI), a ministry team with an apostolic heart. They consist of men and women who, through friendly partnerships, assist pastors and elders in building their local churches, advancing the work of Jesus Christ’s Kingdom in their regions, and creating opportunities for spreading the Gospel beyond their borders.
Absolutely! Our mothers’ room is located on the left side when facing the stage, and it has a separate entrance. It’s equipped with a live feed to the service and convenient nappy changing facilities.
Absolutely, our campus is designed to be wheelchair-friendly, with most areas on a single level. We also have dedicated toilet facilities to accommodate those with special needs.
An Elder or Pastor, in our belief, is a person chosen by God to take on the responsibility of governing the Church. They hold the highest authority within the local Church.
Yes, Encounter Church is registered as a Public Beneficiary Organization in accordance with Section 30(1) of the Income Tax Act, No 58 of 1962. Our Elders are also registered with NCMI, and these records are maintained in partnership with Cornerstone Church in Bedfordview, Johannesburg.
